Daytime Bible Study Beginning Oct. 20!

Ladies -

I am so excited to announce that we will be starting a daytime Bible study next Thursday, October 20th!!  This is the first time since I have been at LCC that we have had a daytime study, and although we realize that it is inconvenient for many people, we also recognize that there are several women at our church who are available at this time of day and are hungering for growth and fellowship.  Marion Hunt decided to take the bull by the horns and start a study for those who are in that boat.  (Thanks, Marion!)

The Bible study will be each Thursday morning from 9:30 – 11:30 AM.  We will be studying Beth Moore’s Stepping Up: A Journey Through the Psalms of Ascent, and the study will be at Hope Warfel’s house.  There will be child care available for a fee.

At the first meeting on October 20th we will introduce the study, have some light refreshments, discuss child care costs, ordering books, etc.  If you are interested in attending the Bible study (or even think you might be!), please email Marion Hunt today.  We need to know how many child care workers to hire, how many books we are likely to need, etc.  Marion’s email address is mmcsehunt@gmail.com.

I hope you can join us as we dive deeper in God’s word and GROW!!

Melissa

Women’s Ministry Brunch

On Saturday, August 27th, about 20 women from Life Community got together for a beautiful morning of food and fellowship.  The theme was “seasons” and each table was decorated for a season of the year.  We watched a video about women in different seasons of life, and we celebrated that God never changes, regardless of the season in which we are living.

The fall holds a lot of fun activities and events for women’s ministry.  We can’t wait to see what God has in store for the ladies in our church!

Community Groups Kicking Off

Fall is inching in upon us, and that means that Community Groups have returned as well.  Hurray!  Our kickoff day is in two Sundays on August 28th.  Obviously, if your group is not meeting on Sundays then the date of your first meeting will be different: Monday the 29th or Wednesday the 31st.

For those of you who are not yet in a community group but want to be; I’d love to help you find the one that best fits your schedule.  We presently have 5 groups, 4 of which meet in the homes of other LCC people, and one, which meets Sunday mornings @ 9AM @ Shayne Elementary.  My email address is rob@lifecommunitytn.com.  Please contact me if you want to get involved.

This semester (from August till Christmas), we will be reading and interacting with a book, “The Prodigal God” by Tim Keller.  Our goal in reading and discussing this book is not simply to fill up our calendar with more stuff to do.  We believe that Keller’s book provides the careful reader with a right perspective on a well known story, and consequently, it clearly and simply lays out the teaching of Christ both in the historical and modern context.  So, the goal of each community group is to work together at understanding and applying the truths behind this biblical parable to our lives.  And all the while, building friendships with each other for support and prayer that will continue to exist outside the structure of Church-planned functions. Please don’t hesitate to let me know if you have any questions; I’ll be glad to answer them.

Dinners for Eight

Even though we go to a small church, we don’t all know each other very well (or, in some cases, at all)!  This fall, we are going to be more intentional about doing life together and building new relationships.  In September, we are going to introduce something called “Dinners for Eight.”  The idea is simple:  Eight adults who don’t know each other very well will eat dinner together!  (Profound concept, isn’t it?)  Hostesses will coordinate the meal, help figure out child care, and provide a place for everyone to eat.

There will be sign-ups available at church beginning this Sunday.  There will  only be room for about 32 adults to participate in September, but if there is enough interest and we can find more hostesses, we will provide more opportunities in October.  Please sign up to get to know some families you don’t know very well.  Let’s break bread together and build some new, God-centered relationships!

Women’s Ministry: Final Pool Party and Fall Kickoff

Women’s Ministry celebrated its final event of the summer by gathering with our kids at the Governor’s Club swimming pool.  Five women and eleven kids got together for some basic, old-fashioned fun, and a good time was had by all!  There are no photos to share because the ladies did not appreciate having their pictures taken.  ;-)

As we prepare to start our fall schedule, we are going to do things a little differently than we have in the past.  Instead of simply sending a mass email with a list of events, we are going to gather together to properly kick off the new season.  This is an opportunity for everyone to gather together at the same time to worship, plan, and have some fellowship.  Save the date for Saturday morning, August 27th, as we will have a women’s brunch to kick off a new year.  There will be delicious food, surprises, a speaker, and several opportunities to learn about the direction women’s ministry is taking in our church and how you can be involved.  We only have two big events per year: the women’s retreat in the spring and this fall kickoff brunch (which we hope will become a tradition), so we want to have as many women from the church there as we can.  Put it on your calendar right now and invite all your friends.  We hope to see you there!
